Project Songbird – Full Home Renovation in Burleigh Waters

We are truly excited to share one of our biggest projects of 2025 – a spectacular full home renovation in Burleigh Waters. Our clients loved their location, but their 25-year-old home hadn’t kept pace with their growing children and entertainer’s lifestyle. Instead of moving, they chose to invest in a custom renovation that would future-proof their home, enhance functionality, and reflect how they truly live.

The result? A warm, homely, and high-quality full home transformation that was purpose-built for entertaining – where smart design meets effortless living, with clever spatial reconfigurations and premium finishes throughout.

The client brief

Several areas of the home were no longer serving the family’s needs, with valuable space – particularly in the kitchen – going underutilised. External doors in the kitchen and lounge made the space difficult to place furniture as well as uncomfortably hot during Queensland’s summers. Certain areas of the home reflected the awkward layouts and dated interior choices typical of 1980s-built Gold Coast properties – limiting both functionality and flow.

To maximise value and impact, we opted to rework the existing floorplan rather than explore a home extension. This strategic decision allowed us to unlock underutilised space without incurring council approval fees or investing in minimal square metre gains – freeing up their budget for high-quality finishes and lifestyle-driven upgrades. With entertaining at the heart of the clients’ vision, we focused on enhancing indoor/outdoor flow and incorporating a custom entertainer’s bar area.

Key features of this custom build

This renovation focused on strategic layout changes and lifestyle-driven upgrades:

  • Extended kitchen cabinetry wall for a spacious, entertainer-friendly layout
  • Shortened structural wall to open up the lounge room
  • Replaced external doors with bifold windows and added a built-in dining bench
  • Installed stacker doors to connect kitchen/dining with the outdoor pool area
  • Replaced carpet and tiles with waterproof, scratch-resistant laminate flooring
  • Created a large bar with pocket doors, LED lighting, and a Vintec fridge
  • Redesigned kids’ bathroom for more space and storage
  • Upgraded ensuite with emerald feature tiles and earthy flooring
  • Built a walk-in wardrobe with wood-look cabinetry and LED lighting
  • Added a grand entry door for elevated street appeal

Signature features

A key feature of the renovation is the electric fireplace – chosen for its ease of installation and year-round versatility. Without the need for a flue, it delivers all the ambiance of a traditional fire without the heat – ideal for Gold Coast living. With adjustable flame colours, a gentle crackling sound, and even a cool-air setting, it’s a family favourite, especially with the kids.

The adjacent stone feature wall, crafted from high-quality materials sourced locally from Stone Style, adds texture and timeless appeal. It’s a tactile, conversation-starting element that draws the eye and invites interaction.

At the heart of the home, the custom bar is both functional and beautifully integrated. Pocket doors – mirroring the kitchen cabinetry – allow it to be tucked away seamlessly when not in use. Inside, a large Vintec bar fridge, LED under-shelf lighting, generous storage, and a stone splashback create a space that’s equal parts practical and polished.

The built-in dining bench adds comfort and character to the kitchen zone, with upholstered seating and a raised ledge for casual drinks – perfect for relaxed entertaining.

In the bathroom, a large skylight was introduced to flood the space with natural light, enhancing the sense of openness and warmth. Premium finishes elevate both bathrooms, including Nero brushed bronze tapware and BAO bathtubs and basins from The Blue Space. The ensuite’s emerald feature tiles are complemented by earthy-toned floors, creating a serene, spa-like retreat.

Finally, a new oversized front door was installed to create a grand, welcoming entrance—setting the tone for the refined, lifestyle-led transformation.

Biggest project wins

The reimagined kitchen/living/dining zone is the heart of this renovation. By solving layout inefficiencies and investing in high-impact design choices, we created a space that feels expansive, welcoming, and truly tailored to the client’s lifestyle.
